REEL – 4×5
Develop 4×5 sheet film in Paterson tanks
The REEL – 4×5 is a spiral reel for developing 4×5 sheet film, optimized for rotary processing and now compatible with staining developers. Each reel holds up to 4 sheets and fits Paterson 3 tanks or larger. A Paterson 8 tank can hold two reels for up to 8 sheets at once.
Loading is straightforward in the dark—the design holds sheets securely for even development without undeveloped edges. Works with inversion, rotary, or standard agitation, and handles black & white, C-41, or E-6 processing.
Specifications:
- Capacity: 4 sheets per reel
- Fits Paterson 3 tanks and larger
- Material: chemical-resistant PETG

Frequently asked questions
The things photographers ask us most.
4 sheets of 4 x 5 inch sheet film per reel. Two reels fit in a Paterson Multi-Reel 8 tank, giving you 8 sheets in a single run.
Paterson Multi-Reel 3 and larger. It does not fit the 1-reel or 2-reel Paterson tanks.
Yes. The reel is compatible with staining developers.
Not for B&W. You can do hand inversion in a Paterson tank. For colour processes (C-41, E-6) where temperature consistency matters, using AGO produces more reliable results.
No. 4 x 5 inches (102 x 127 mm) is slightly larger than 9 x 12 cm (90 x 120 mm). They are not interchangeable. Use the REEL – 9×12 for 9 x 12 cm sheet film.
Slide each sheet into the reel slots in total darkness, emulsion side in. The reel holds sheets in a helical stack so chemistry reaches all surfaces evenly during rotary processing.
