Maintenance of AGO

AGO Film Processor Maintenance

Regular maintenance keeps your AGO Film Processor performing consistently and extends its lifespan. This article covers cleaning after each use, gasket lubrication, shaft maintenance, and battery replacement.

Cleaning

Clean your AGO after every development session. Chemical residue left on the device can cause corrosion and deterioration over time.

Step 1 Power off and unplug

Ensure the AGO is switched off and disconnected from power before cleaning.

Step 2 Use a damp cloth

Wipe the device with a damp cloth to remove chemical residue. You can lightly rinse only the parts that come into direct contact with chemistry. Do not immerse the AGO in water. Do not use cleaning agents or detergents, just water and a soft cloth.

Step 3 Be gentle around sensitive parts

Use only soft fabrics. Avoid abrasive materials or excessive force, especially around the shaft, temperature sensor, and front panel.

Step 4 Dry completely

Wipe or blow dry all parts before storing. Pay attention to any crevices where moisture can collect.

Important

Avoid pouring water onto the back of the device where the pressure equalization membrane is located. If you see drops of water there, wipe or blow it clean immediately.

During heavy or professional small lab use, we recommend covering the USB-C port with masking tape between sessions to avoid corrosion from chemical splashes.

Gasket Lubrication

The gasket creates the watertight seal between the AGO and the Paterson tank. Lubricating it regularly maintains that seal and extends the gasket's lifespan. Lubricate after every 10-15 development cycles.

Step 1 Clean the gasket first

Wipe the gasket clean and dry before applying any grease. Lubricating over dirt or residue traps contaminants under the grease and can cause deterioration.

Step 2 Apply a light coat of silicone grease

Use a high-viscosity silicone grease applied with a paper towel or soft rag. Apply just enough to make the gasket shine.

Do not overapply. Excess grease can cause the AGO to slip out of the Paterson tank during use.

What to use Suitable lubricants for the EPDM seal

Use a silicone-based grease or oil only. Suitable options include:

  • Silicone plumber's grease
  • 100% silicone treadmill lubricant
  • Pure silicone-based personal lubricants

Make sure whatever you use contains no water, fragrance, or additives.

Shaft Squeak Noise

If your AGO develops a squeaky noise from around the shaft, the shaft seal needs lubrication. Apply silicone grease to the shaft seal while the motor is running and continue until the squeak is gone.

Changing the Batteries

Warranty notice

Changing the batteries yourself will void your warranty. If your AGO is still under warranty, contact the nearest reseller to arrange battery replacement. Find your nearest reseller at vintagevisual.eu/dealer-locator.

If your warranty has expired, you can change the batteries yourself by following the steps below.

Battery type: 2 x 18650 Li-ion. Buy authentic Panasonic or Samsung batteries from a reputable supplier only.

Battery replacement steps

  1. Ensure the machine is switched off
  2. Unscrew the two screws at the front and two at the back
  3. Carefully open the AGO casing, taking care not to damage the wiring inside
  4. Remove the battery lock and remove the old batteries
  5. Insert new batteries and reattach the battery lock
  6. Close the casing carefully, ensuring the seal between the casings sits correctly in its groove, then screw the front panel back on
  7. Attach the charger
  8. Power ON

Do not use sharp tools or methods that could damage the device during battery replacement.
